Occupational health and safety specialist

The Occupational Health and Safety Specialist's role is to design, implement and organize the company's health and safety strategies to contribute to a prevention-oriented corporate culture.

Role and responsibilities:

  • Help manage workers' compensation claims and the site's KIK return-to-work program.
  • Manage the site's health and safety corrective and preventive actions to ensure timely follow-up and implementation.
  • Manage the site's waste management program, including sustainable development initiatives.
  • Ensure that all required safety, environmental and sustainable development reports are prepared on time for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain the site's health and safety filing program.
  • Manage site risk assessments.
  • Manage the site's hazard communication program, including safety data sheet management and training.
  • Manage site safety management systems.
  • Manage the site's process safety management or E2 program, where applicable.
  • Manage environmental permitting, reporting, monitoring and record keeping.
  • Implement leadership and safety programs for facility employees.
  • Manage the change management process.
  • Manage site security programs.
  • Manage site emergency response programs.
  • Ensuring compliance of hazardous materials shipments.
  • Manage the day-to-day activities of the site's health and safety staff.
  • Contribute to the identification and selection of site health and safety personnel.
  • Manage the training and development of site health and safety personnel.
  • Manage the prevention mutual group (as needed)
  • Conduct periodic performance reviews of site health and safety personnel.

Skills :

  • Over 5 years' experience in environmental compliance, health and safety in a production environment.
  • Experience in a unionized environment
  • A thorough knowledge and understanding of federal, state/provincial and local health and safety regulations is required.
  • Experience of industrial/drinking water treatment systems is a plus.
  • Experience in the chemical or consumer products industry is a plus.
  • Experience in process safety management (PSM), risk management plans (RMP) or E2 requirements is an asset.
  • Experience in employee supervision (asset)
  • Autonomous, he focuses on continuous improvement.
  • Ability to collaborate, overcome obstacles and build trust with the departments concerned.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload according to impact and plant objectives.
  • Ability to lead change by taking projects from proposal to implementation.
  • Ability to effectively supervise, mentor and advise others.
  • Travel time required for work: Less than 25%.
  • Availability: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
